About Us
Established in 1992, ISLS (International Spanish Language School) began as a Spanish language agency, promoting immersive language learning programs in Costa Rica for adult students. Founded by Dana Garrison and his brother after their own Spanish studies in Costa Rica, the company quickly expanded to include specialized programs in medical, legal, and educational Spanish. In 2001, Dana developed the Children’s and Teen Camp as a unique space for young learners, inspired by his desire to create a language-learning environment for his own daughters that combined Spanish education with adventure, culture, and nature.
Originally known as the ISLS Camps, Dana partnered with Explornatura, a Costa Rican adventure company, to enrich the camp experience with cultural immersion and outdoor activities. In 2020, Dana transitioned leadership of the camp to Explornatura, entrusting them with daily operations while he continued to oversee the camp’s educational direction. In 2022, the camp was rebranded as the Explornatura Summer Camp, and later as the CR Spanish Camp to provide clarity and cohesion for families. This name change reflects our dedication to delivering the best in language learning, adventure, and cultural exchange for young students.
While some initial materials may still reference ISLS, families can be assured they are joining the CR Spanish Camp—a program deeply rooted in Costa Rica, where language learning is brought to life through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
